The most interesting sports story of the day is about someone ending their playing career, and, presumably, their athletic life.
Grant Desme just won the Most Valuable Player award for the Arizona Fall League, a baseball outfit designed for young minor league players, allowing them to hone their craft for a few weeks in the offseason. The Oakland Athletics prospect hit .315, with 11 home runs and 27 RBI – in just 27 games.
This doesn’t even count his 2009 season, split between Kane County and Stockton, where he hit .288, blasted 31 home runs, drove in 89 runs AND stole 40 bases.
He announced his retirement…at age 23…to enter the priesthood.
This is quite reminiscent of this morning’s terrific PR Breakfast Club post by my good friend Jeff Esposito where he discussed transitioning from sports PR to non-sports PR.
Between the news and the post, it got me thinking: What would you sacrifice your career for? Be it a job, a person, etc…
