Good morning! It’s Thursday, October 11, 2012 – This is #TheFeed!
Read of the Day #1: 6 Tips for Generating Publicity for Your Startup
Rebekah Iliff customizes the PR process to startup companies. Interesting that #1 is “Make it Emotional.” Startups are all about passion, so it makes sense that successful publicity efforts start in finding that energy and emotion.
My favorite line from the post: “Remember, publicity is a complex beast with highly variable outcomes.” Well said, Rebekah!
Read of the Day #2: 10 Work-Life Integration Tips
It’s easy to work non-stop in the communications industry. My friend Heather Whaling presents 10 ways (some easy, some not-so-easy) to create a balance. A key point that Heather makes here is about blending work-life as much as separating it. What’s even cooler about all of this is that Heather runs an agency and is implementing these with her team.
I especially relate Tip #5: “Bring on the crazy.” Once you just accept some level of craziness in your life, you can relax and concentrate on the task at hand.
My addition: “There is no normal.” Working in PR means that you don’t have a routine – events, travel, meetings. Realize that every day is going to be different. And then rock it.
Cool App: IDEAL Currency Identifier
I love apps that make real life easier for people. The IDEAL Currency Identifier was produced by several companies, along with the US Treasury and the Department of Education to help people who are blind identify the denomination of US bills.
It’s currently available for Android devices (version 4.0 and higher).
Song of the Day: “Vision of Love” by Trevin Hunte & Amanda Brown
[If you aren't watching "The Voice," you are missing out on an amazing season of musical talent. This performance of the Mariah Carey classic, which aired Monday night on NBC, still has the Internet all atwitter!]
